I just ran into a problem where backup jobs were failing when using the snapshot quiesce option.
Errors: snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine'
An error occurred while saving the snapshot: msg.snapshot.error – QUIESCINGERROR.
"An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine. See the virtual machine's event log for details. An error occurred while taking a snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine. An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine."
To verify the issue, I logged into Windows OS and saw that the VMware snapshot provider is missing from the services list.
Follow the troubleshooting methods below to resolve the issue.
> Open services.msc
> Start com+system application service
> Go to program and features (appwiz.cpl)
> Click VMware tools and modify volume shadow copy services and choose entire features will be unavailable if already changed. Change entire feature will be installed on local drive
> Change and finish
> Go back services and refresh(f5) and VMware snapshot provider Will be there
> it works after I tried to take snapshot by using this quiesce option.
Note: Down time is not required for this activity
