Exclude disks from snapshot in vmware

This article describes how to exclude the disks from snapshot.

I observed, In my environment backup job has been configured few VM's has 2 disks out of 7. When backup job initiated VM level snapshot has created on vm level. it covered all disks instead of 2 disks. To reduce space on datastores.. exclude the disks from snapshots.

Steps:

> Power off the VM.

>  Edit settings of vm and choose the disks which are not required from backup.

>  Go to Disk mode and choose independent- persistent option and click okay.

To verify snapshots files on datastore. Browse the datastore and verify the snapshots files like 0000`.vmdk.

> To confirmation, take a snapshot of VM.

> Go to edit settings of VM and independent disks are not greyed out (Dependent disks are greyed out and showing files are 00001.vmdk)

> Successfully exclude the disks from snapshots.
