Virtual Disk CID mis-match on parent CID-Vmware

 

The parent virtual disk has been modified since the child was created. The content ID of the parent virtual disk does not match the corresponding parent content ID in the child Failed to start the virtual machine. Module Disk power on failed. Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/62207440-b9f03ee8-876yu-bcrty7912efec0/TESTVM02/TESTVM02_4-000001.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on


As part of troubleshooting process:-

>  login SSH on esxi host

>  Go to datastore on by using below command.

 # cd /vmfs/volumes/"datastore" 

 # cd /vmfs/volumes//62207440-b9f03ee8-876yu-bcrty7912efec0/

> run the command # ls -ltrh 

> As based on error, need to check this disk " TESTVM02_4-000001.vmdk"

> For collect the CID details, run the below commands

> # cat TESTVM02_4.vmdk


   # Parent CID: d6a063b9

> # cat TESTVM02_4-000001.vmdk

> # vi TESTVM02_4-000001.vmdk

   1. Following the process press I for insert and change the parent ID into here.

   2. Once enter, ESC and :wq! (for saving the file)

> Now verify the descriptor  file

> Verify whether parent CIDs have same CIDs, then go ahead and power ON the VMs. It works fine   now
