How to update Firmware HPE ProLiant Gen9 Servers

 

Why we need upgrade firmware:

With ESX classic, in some cases, you may have had agents installed in the Service Console which were used to upgrade the firmware. With ESXi, that approach no longer works due to the absence of a Service Console. Firmware, however, still needs to be upgraded periodically.

How to update Firmware HPE ProLiant Gen9 Servers

Download the SPP version for suitable hardware.

The following firmware types can be updated from the Firmware Update page:

   ILO firmware

   System ROM (BIOS)

   Chassis firmware (SL and XL servers)

   Power Management Controller

   System Programmable Logic Device (CPLD)

   NVMe Backplane Firmware

   EdgeLine Chassis Controller Firmware

Migrate all VM's to another host and put into maintenance mode.

1. Login ILO page and enter the credentials.

2. Launch the ILO console and mount the SPP ISO file.

3. Reboot the host.

4. While booting choose the boot menu option and select the bootable USB key from CD/DVD option.

5. It will automatically choose the "Automatic firmware update" option.

6.  It will complete 3 stages automatically and reboot.

7. Once done, validate the latest firmware components.
