How to remove orphaned vms from vCenter

How to remove orphaned from vcenter

I recently had an issue to remove orphaned vms from vcenter. Those vms are part of replica(composer VMs from horizon VDI).unfortunately we are not using composer in VDI..We recently upgraded VDI from 7X to 8x..however composer vms are still showing in vcenter. We have to remove/move those to different datastores because we replacing the storage.

Unable to remove orphaned vms from vcenter because migrate and remove from inventory options are greyed out.

So  I have logged into esxi host through web browser.

Go to vms and select action Tab

Choose delete option on respective vm

It will showing destroy in task/events from esxi host.

But that vms are not deleted completely from vcenter and it showing orphaned in vcenter.

So I followed few troubleshooting steps to remove the vms.

- Kept the esxi host maintenance mode.

- all vms were migrated to another host except orphaned vms.

- Restared the esxi host.

But still not resolved the issue.

I decided to re-added the esxi host from vcenter.

Please followthe below steps

- Put esxi host maintenance mode.

- disconnet the host and remove.

- add the esxi host on same cluster.

-  orphaned vms are disappeared after adding esxi on vcenter.

Conclusion: orphaned vms will be disappeared after re-added the esxi host vcenter
