Update VMware Esxi 6.0.0a to VMWare Esxi 6.5 Update2 using ISO.
T There are multiple ways to upgrade the esxi hosts.
> By using ISO image.
> Through command line.
> By using update manager.
1) Once Firmware upgrade is completed, verify host is in maintenance mode only.
2) Launch KVM console and Map "VMware_ESXi_6.5.0_10719125_Custom_Cisco_6.5.2.3.ISO
3) Once the server booted into ISO Image, select “ESXi-6.5.0 Installer image” and click on Enter.
4) Click on Enter to continue with the upgrade of ESXi 6.5, Press “F11” to Accept and continue (EULA).
5) It will detect the existing VMFS partition which is installed with ESXi 6.0. Hit Enter to continue.
6) The installer will prompt you with 3 different options, once it detected the existing ESXi installation in the VMFS volume.
7) Select option 1 “Upgrade ESXi, preserve VMFS datastore“
This option migrates the ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 and also preserves the data such as configuration information and VMFS data. Hit Enter to proceed with Upgrade.
8) Press “F11” to proceed with the upgrade of ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5.
9) It will take few minutes to complete the Upgrade. You can monitor the progress percentage of the ESXi upgrade.
10) Once the upgrade is completed successfully, you can see the message” This system has been successfully upgraded to ESXi 6.5. Remove the attached installation media such as ISO image or CD\DVD of ESXi installer from the server. Hit Enter to reboot the server to start using ESXi 6.5.
11) Once the server is up, verify the ESXi version should be ESXi 6.5 U2 build No- 10719125.
12) Also, verify drivers’ versions are upgraded, all the nics/datastores/vswitchs are configured, no error at ESXi/VCenter.
